What happens when the body is injured? In an injured mouse retina (the upper left in the image),immune cells (magenta) were recruited to the site to fight infection. Meanwhile, a type of supportive cells (Muller cells, the blue hair-like cells) started the tissue regeneration process by producing a protein that is normally only expressed in astrocytes (the blue cells located in the inner layer of the retina).
